The annual Lions of Illinois Foundation Sight and Sound Sweepstakes, our 2nd largest fundraiser, provides operating
monies for the Lions approved programs and services of our Foundation such as: Camp Lions for Deaf & Blind Youth and Adults, Low Vision Screenings, Diabetic Retinopathy Vision Screenings, Infant Hearing Screenings, and assistance for eyeglasses and hearing aids. A portion of the funds are used in local communities by Lions & Lioness Clubs in a wide variety of programs.
The Sweepstakes campaign
starts in January with Lions and Lioness Clubs receiving Sweepstakes ticket
order forms & an informational brochure about the benefits of
participating. It concludes with the drawing at the annual Lions of Illinois
Foundation Breakfast during the State convention in May.
Sweepstakes tickets are intended to be sold by Lion
and Lioness Clubs & their members, with anticipation that each member
should be able to sell at least one book of tickets. Books of tickets hold twelve (12) tickets.
They may be sold as single tickets for $1.00 per ticket or as an entire book of
twelve for $10.00.
Most participating Clubs may
elect to have up to 40 % of their sales returned to them for use with their
Clubs’ sight and/or hearing related activities. Clubs may also choose to be a
100% Club, returning all funds collected by their members through ticket sales,
thereby ensuring the Foundation’s ability to continue delivery of services to the
visually and hearing impaired. Please
refer to the current How To Manual received for full details.
Clubs electing to not
participate in the actual Sweepstakes raffle can participate in a couple of
different ways: (1) the Club could conduct a fundraiser with the proceeds
designated to Sweepstakes or (2) purchase the tickets received by the
Club (Clubs have been previous winners).
Even though the real winners
are those individuals we assist through our programs and services, there are 26
prizewinners, with the possibility that an equal number of Lion / Lioness members
selling winning tickets will also be rewarded.
The grand prize is $5000, with Five (5) - $1000 prizes, Ten (10) - $500
prizes, & another Ten (10) - $250 prizes.
Winners are notified by the Foundation by mail and/or phone of their
good luck.
Our goal of raising $160,000
to help fund the programs and services of the LIF is very attainable. The most important part of a successful
Sweepstakes campaign is to get the tickets to Club members early (if possible,
at the January meeting), explain the program to them, and explain where the
money is destined. As mentioned above,
Sweepstakes can also be an excellent no cost fundraiser for your Club!
Most important is to get
your Club members out & sell tickets.
Tickets that are visible will sell. Additional
tickets are available from our Foundation upon request.
